Contribution au programme

The objective of the internship is to allow students to experience the reality of the work of the health engineer, the demands and constraints of the professional environment, and the relations between clinicians and engineers.

Acquis d’apprentissage spécifiques

By the end of the internship, students will be able to :

• AAS 1 : Become part of an institution active in the health sector, by investigating the following elements : general organization, management, culture, social context, day-to-day management, economic integration, technical aspects, products and services, etc.
• AAS 2 : Participate actively in a health engineering project carried out in a multidisciplinary team, with an adequate degree of autonomy and initiative, and by mobilizing their own knowledge and skills acquired in health engineering techniques for the achievement of the entrusted mission
• AAS 3 : Communicate effectively, in writing and orally, with engineers but also with other stakeholders of the health sector
• AAS 4 : Implement a written internship notebook, including meeting agendas and minutes, based on a proposed proforma for traceability and quality assurance purposes

The first objective of the internship is to allow students to experience the reality of the work of the health engineer, the demands and constraints of the professional environment, and the relations between clinicians and engineers. The second objective of the internship is to allow students to practice and improve, in the field, their knowledge and skills in health engineering techniques.

Students will be hosted, individually or in pairs, in an institution active in the health sector (research laboratory, design office, administration, private or public service organization). The internship supervisor will suggest to the students to carry out a mission taking into account the current concerns of his institution (service, department, etc.) :

• Design of a medical technology or a procedure (including needs analysis, risk analysis, etc.)
• Evaluation of a diagnostic or treatment procedure.
• Evaluation of the performance of a medical technology (improvement of a technology, project to purchase a new technology, etc.)
• …

The mission carried out by the students must lead to a concrete result at the end of a design work, including identification of the health issue, analysis of the functional needs, definition of development or improvement strategies, design of a conceptual solution that takes security-related risks into account.

Méthodes d'enseignement

• 120-hour full-time internship over the last five weeks of the first term. Students are welcomed individually or in pairs in an institution active in the health care sector (research laboratory, design office, administration, private or public service organization). Students are supervised by an internship supervisor who is located in the host institution. Students are also accompanied by a teacher from ECAM (the tutor).

Content and terms :

The internship is subject to an overall continuous evaluation, established by the internship supervisor and the tutor, which cannot be re-evaluated in the second session. The evaluation is made on the basis of an evaluation grid and consists of three parts:

• The quality of the work carried out during the internship: evaluation established by the internship supervisor, also taking into account the behaviour and active participation of the student
• The oral presentation to be organized at the end of the internship on a specific date. This presentation will be organized by the student in the presence of the internship supervisor and the tutor. During this, the student will present the work accomplished and the outline of his internship report.
• The written report to be submitted at the end of the internship on a specific date. The internship report must include a set of elements related to the various aspects addressed during the internship (see evaluation grid).

Evaluation weights :

The internship mark is established on the basis of a weighted arithmetic average :

• The quality of the work carried out during the internship: 60%
• The oral presentation: 20%
• The written report: 20%

Once the weighted mark has been determined, the tutor consults the internship supervisor and determines the final mark, which can vary from -1 point to +1 point.

Any unjustified absence or any inappropriate behaviour during the internship will result in a final score <10/20.

Any delay or failure to respect the deadlines may be penalized: up to -2 points compared to the final mark.
